When students attempt to learn and adults take on challenging tasks, three parts of their minds are activated: (1) the cognitive (thinking) part; (2) the affective (feeling) part; and (3) the conative (doing) part which encompasses their instincts for taking action and solving problems. However, often, educators lack the language to describe these conative strengths. The adult who does their best work last minute, the student who consistently asks detailed questions and procrastinates until they have answers, the middle schooler who is flooded with ideas and completes assignments differently than the teacher's example, are all examples of operating with conative strengths, i.e. their superpowers. Learning this language provides opportunity for breakthrough learning and accelerated results in and out of the classroom, all while being our most authentic selves.

The percentage of self-identified EOCs enrolled during the 23-24 school year is now nearly three times the percentage of the Colorado teacher workforce at large.
