In 2022, as part of Colorado’s HB21-1010, a Diversity Working Group released its report “Diversifying the Educator Workforce: Disrupting Inequities.” It provided a set of recommendations and strategies for recruiting, preparing, and retaining diverse educators in the profession. By implementing these strategies, the PEBC Teacher Residency, Colorado’s largest teacher residency program, has doubled the percentage of participants who identify as Educators of Color (EOC) in the last three years. The percentage of self-identified EOCs enrolled during the 23-24 school year is now nearly three times the percentage of the Colorado teacher workforce at large. Participants will learn what these strategies look like in practice while making connections to their own schools and systems.
