Workshop/Breakout Sessions
Both teachers and administrators can benefit from fostering positive mindsets to elevate expectations and increase student math achievement! Explore the latest on high expectations and implicit bias to frame a discussion on how these attitudes are impacting students and widening the math achievement gap. We provide practical approaches to encourage teacher self-reflection, helping identify and overcome negative biases or fixed mindsets regarding students' capabilities. We also share activities to help teachers set high expectations and create a supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and capable. Participants will not only gain a tangible toolkit to use in their own classrooms or with teachers on campus, but also have time to create an action plan to re:vision math education.
