GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Provides speech and language services to an assigned school(s) including screening, assessment, and identification of students with communication disorders which adversely affect their educational progress. Develop and provide direct and indirect services within the student's educational setting, based on established IEP goals and objectives.

Reports to the Director of Student Support Services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participate in the multidisciplinary team process regarding eligibility issues, Individual
  • Provide diagnostic assessment of language, speech, voice and/or fluency disorders
  • Prepare written evaluations and maintains records which clearly and succinctly document services provided, student progress, and eligibility determinations.
  • Effectively communicate test results, diagnosis, and proposed treatment plans.
  • Case management and development of IEPs to include consultation services and direct service delivery models.
  • Design, implement and support IEP programming needed to maximize functional educational outcomes in the areas listed above.
  • Provide consultation to regular education, special education, support staff and parents, and other agencies regarding programming for students with communication needs through appropriate service delivery models
  • Serve a continuum of students in a variety of settings ranging from partial to full inclusion
  • Establish and maintain confidential records of screenings, evaluations, and therapy progress
  • Prepare and submit reports for the Director of Student Support Services as requested
  • Attend conferences and workshops regarding communication remediation techniques
  • When requested, participates in hearing screening programs to identify, and refer students with suspected hearing impairment and/or middle ear disorders.
  • Communicates with students who have disorders of communication, their families, caregivers and other service providers relative to the student's disability and its management.
  • Assists in development of classroom activities to meet the communication needs of the student.
  • Communicates with appropriate agencies, schools and other organizations as needed to meet the needs of students with communication disabilities.
  • Remain current concerning instructional and technological advances and other matters concerning speech-language therapy.
  • Provide in-service training to other professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Attend staff meetings and serves on committees as needed.
  • Participate in staff development activities and develops a professional growth plan
  • Perform other duties consistent with scope of job description as requested by Director of Student Support Services
  • Consult with teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding communication related issues associated with students, building, or district programs
  • Be a resource to Problem Solving Team (RTI/MTSS)
  • Participate on the multi-disciplinary team to identify students with communicative disabilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with students of all ages

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an educational institution approved by the Colorado Department of Education
  • Valid Colorado Special Service Provider License with endorsement in 0-21 Speech and Language Pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology preferred

EXPERIENCE:

2-5 years’ experience in the school setting preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use Speech and language assessments and remediation.
  • Demonstrated strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Strong technological skills preferred: knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer-based programs frequently used to complete scope of work
  • Flexibility to changes or locations placed for work setting
  • Basic math skills
  • Customer service and public relations skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed primarily in the Resource classroom setting
  • Required to work normal business hours with additional hours as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Typical demands require the employee to:

  • Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of a computer, other office equipment, and writing utensils
  • Frequently be involved in verbal and auditory interaction both interpersonally and through communication devices
  • occasionally lift/carry burdens weighing up to 30 lbs. and push/pull/maneuver burdens weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and balance while working or helping students
  • Spend equivalent amounts of the time sitting, standing, and walking while performing job duties
