Job Title: Special Education Teacher and 504 Plan Coordinator


Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)


FLSA Status: Exempt


Reports to: Dean of Student Services


Work Hours/Days: School days (normally 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.) and staff work days during the school year


Salary Range: $55,000-65,000 annually, depending on experience and education 



Position Summary:

We are looking for a Special Education Teacher who can mentor students and teachers, manage IEPs and 504s, and provide general support for our Student Services department.


Ascent Classical of Northern Denver (ACAND) is a growing school of about 300 students that will offer grades K-9 for the 2025-26 school year, with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year.

This is an onsite position based in our school.

Current license in Special Education in Colorado or willingness to enroll in a program to work towards one.

A passion for teaching and inspiring young people.

Essential Functions:


Manage all aspects of the special education caseload for K through 9th grade students.

Provide direct services to students with disabilities as outlined in program plans.

Development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state timelines and mandates.

Participate with parents and/or guardians and team in the development of 504 accommodation plans.

Collaborate with teachers and parents in ensuring IEP and 504 accommodations are provided as outlined in program plans.

Maintain files and appropriate paperwork for designated caseload.

Facilitate and monitor activities in keeping with IEP goals for designated caseload.

Develop/Implement appropriate curriculum and corresponding lesson plans for students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs.

Knowledge of behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques including physical management and positive reinforcement.

Facilitate weekly department/classroom meetings.

Plan and facilitate occasional parent education programs.

Attend staff development meetings.

Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff.

Supervise the work of paraprofessionals including daily planning, education of students' needs and progress.

Maintain files and appropriate paperwork including IEPs, data tracking, etc.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

As Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative, team environment, employee must be physically present at school to perform his/her job functions.
