POSITION: English Language Development (ELD) Teacher

GRADE LEVEL: Hiring for both middle school and high school positions

SALARY: $52,000-$70,000 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years. We also offer a relocation stipend for anyone joining us from 75 miles or more from Denver! In addition, if you hold any active teaching license (including out of state) with a Culturally Linguistically Diverse Educator, English Language Learner Professional Endorsement or active certification in TEFL/TESOL/CELTA - the salary range will be increased to $54,000-$72,000 and you will receive a $3,000 Signing Bonus.

STATUS: Full time school year, benefits eligible, exempt, in-person position (Denver, CO)

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Our ELD Teachers will play a critical role in advancing English language learners’ knowledge and use of English in increasingly sophisticated ways, especially focused on the successful use of academic language necessary to accelerate their learning.

  • Plan and deliver culturally responsive instruction to 3-5 classes a day of various lengths depending on the DSST campus and grade level

  • Use data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices 

  • Additional duties as assigned such as supporting student recruitment, running a small group advisory class, lunch duty, and after school tutoring

 

Depending on campus, the ELD instructional model may differ, but typically includes:

 

Middle School:

  • Pull out courses, differentiated by emerging, intermediate, and advanced language proficiencies, that emphasize the functional and communicative language approaches

  • Co-taught and integrated ELD/Social Studies or Co-taught and integrated ELD/Writing in which content is the vehicle for direct language instruction

 

High School:

  • Co-taught and integrated ELD/Composition in which content is the vehicle for direct language instruction; and/or

  • Pull out courses for emerging and low intermediate proficiencies that emphasize the functional and communicative language approaches

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
