Staff members at Renaissance Secondary facilitate experiences for students in service of the school’s mission:
- Through authentic, integrated learning experiences, Renaissance will empower students to become modern learners who are critical thinkers and problem solvers, communicators, collaborators, and creative innovators who contribute to the world around them.
- The school social worker works collaboratively with teachers and other team members to meet students’ educational, social, and emotional needs through a variety of methods.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group services that emphasize improved educational performance to students experiencing mental health or social difficulties.
- Participate as a member of the IEP team
- Collaborate on developing individualized educational plans
- Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of MTSS, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and accommodations to assist general education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting
- Provide/participate in school wide activities
- Crisis intervention
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the child’s program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom
- Provide direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-services to staff, etc.) as needed
- Maintain appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent for progress and effectiveness of mental health support
- Participate in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans as required
- Establish and monitor necessary services to students and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP
- Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs.
