Salary: Starting at $52,000

Position Summary: The School Counselor will play a crucial role in providing guidance, counseling, and support services to students, fostering a positive school climate, and collaborating with administrators, educators, and parents/caregivers to ensure the overall success of our students.

Essential Duties:
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address academic, personal, and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to identify and address students' unique challenges and create effective intervention plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to students experiencing emotional or behavioral issues.
  • Assist students in developing academic and social-emotional goals through individualized counseling sessions and relevant assessments.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling with students experiencing mental health or social difficulties;
  • Conduct risk assessments with students as needed.
  • Conduct classroom presentations on topics such as social-emotional topics, behavioral regulation, anti-bullying efforts.
  • Collaborate with the school's special education team to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Serve as the school’s 504 Coordinator for students with disabilities who are not in Individual Education Plans (IEPs), following the qualification process, completing official documentation with students’ accommodations, and distributing the list of accommodations to teachers and relevant staff.
  • Monitor and track students' academic progress, attendance, and behavior, and implement appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Stay informed about community resources and refer students and families to external support services when necessary.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current on best practices in school counseling.
  • Collaborate with mental health team in the implementation and improvement of the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) school program, including student referrals, data tracking, and student interventions.
  • Maintaining case files and reports to track students’ interventions and progress.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Collaborate with the mental health team, administration, and the school’s authorizer to develop and revise programs to meet the needs of students across the school.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • State licensure or certification as a School Counselor.
  • Previous experience in a K-12 educational setting, preferably in a charter school.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive school environment
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (can attain after hire)

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of Waldorf pedagogy

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Close vision is required for detailed work. Required work will often take place outside and in a classroom and will frequently be noisy. Working with youth may require exposure to bacterial or viral contamination.
