Position: Special Education Teacher – High School (9-12)

Reports to: High School Principal

Responsibilities:

The Learning Specialist will provide special education support and help to ensure the educational development of students in high school. All teachers will be responsible for the adoption of the school mission and vision. In addition, teachers will show a commitment to furthering their own professional development and building relationships with families.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively to design Individual Education Programs that implement evidence based differentiated and innovative instruction to support academic growth, positive social relationships, and positive behavior for learning to promote educational access

  • Demonstrate effective case management skills

  • Attend weekly team meetings

  • Conduct and lead IEP meetings

  • Administer comprehensive learning evaluations

  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt curriculum

  • Administer tests

  • Coordinate and communicate with instructional support professionals about schedules and responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with Principal and Director of Student Support Services about caseload

  • Maintain proper documentation regarding IEPs, accommodations, and parent/teacher communications

  • Collaborate with general education teachers and ISP staff regarding IEP students

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Special Education endorsement(Mild/Moderate disabilities)

  • Background with educating students with learning disabilities

  • Previous experience as a Learning Specialist

  • Previous experience in modifying and/or adapting curriculum

  • Good diagnostic skills

  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and record keeping

  • Proficient in the use of technology

  • Excels in collaboration and has a team mindset
