The K8 SPED Learning Specialist will share the caseload responsibilities for the education of each pupil in his or her charge. They will plan and implement appropriate instruction for students identified as needing additional support, prepare and conduct IEP meetings, and develop and manage Individual Education Plans (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct an organized and professional classroom and demonstrate exceptional instructional delivery.
Model and foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning.
Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents and colleagues.
Follow with Woodrow Wilson Academy’s Core Virtues while interacting with students and the entire WWA community
Assist teachers in identifying students needing targeted specialized instruction.
Assess student's performance frequently and objectively.
Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students/parents.
Promote accountability in students.
Work with the MTSS team collecting data and strategizing for students in Tier 3
Update and review student progress paperwork (IEP) in compliance with State and Federal Laws.
Manage and input assessment data and analyze the data to determine the students needs based on multiple data points.
Provide professional development for staff on best practices.
Manage Special Education Department curriculum needs, supplies, and budget with the Special Education team.
Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are in place for students on IEPs.
Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways.
Actively pursue professional development opportunities.
Participate in and contribute to programs and activities that enhance Woodrow Wilson Academy outside of instructional hours.
Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree. Teaching license with special education endorsement preferred. Must meet the state requirements for Every Student Succeeds Act (ECSA) and have a Commitment to the Core Knowledge Curriculum.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING teachers must be ESSA qualified.  This includes having a four-year bachelor’s degree and an allowable endorsement area. CPR/First Aid highly recommended. Training provided by the school.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Must possess demonstrated skills in classroom and online implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, demonstrated success in working with learners, and experience with leading online learning. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of standard school technology, ability to effectively and efficiently use for a variety of purposes, and demonstrated success in using Teacher, Secondary technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability in interpreting assessment data collected from a variety of sources. Willingness to be a contributing member of the school.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Normal routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that cannot always be anticipated. Ability to meet physical needs of students.
