Our co-curricular teachers model good character and provide excellent instruction in their content areas based on classical pedagogy and curriculum. We seek teachers with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude to join our team. The ideal candidate Physical Education candidate will be organized, diligent, and devoted to helping all students grow in wisdom and virtue. Students in grades K-5 at Ascent Classical Academy have PE daily and as an elective in the upper school. The physical education program educates students in health and wellness, teaches age appropriate skills from balance to team sports, and challenges students to be active and healthy.
Essential Functions:
Organize and facilitate at least one community building event or opportunity during the school year featuring physical education
Foster a professional relationship in collaboration with the co-curricular team
Prepare weekly/daily lesson plans following curriculum guidelines for each year
Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner
Proctor tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
Identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
Communicate regularly with parents
Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
Participate in training as offered by ACAGJ and Hillsdale College's K12
Maintain confidentiality in student records
Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.

Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Education or a fitness related field (Teaching license is NOT required)
Preference is given to candidates with a Physical Education degree and/or certification in teaching pedagogies
Commitment to the mission and vision of ACACS
Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
Adherence to all school policies
Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Creative problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift to 25 pounds
Must be able to traverse classroom and building
Must be able to provide instruction in various spaces dependent upon facilities availability
Must be able to transport teaching materials and manipulatives
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer
Must be able to supervise outdoor duties
