Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND) Brighton, CO


FLSA Status: Exempt


Reports to: Headmaster


Typical Schedule: Full-time, Extended year Calendar, M-F, School days, and professional development days, and workdays.


Salary: $65,000-80,000 annually


Position Summary:


The Dean of Students at Ascent Classical Academy oversees student discipline, promotes a culture of respect and integrity, and manages classroom behavior expectations. Responsibilities include developing disciplinary procedures, leading faculty training, coordinating extracurricular activities, and monitoring student attendance. The Dean supports the Headmaster in school operations and recruitment.


Essential Functions: 





Student Discipline and Behavioral Intervention


Establish a student culture of respect, virtue, integrity, and citizenship utilizing the school's mission and vision

Develop and administer disciplinary procedures per state law and school policy, mission and vision

Oversee disciplinary issues in the school, working closely with faculty and staff to ensure compliance with school policies

Communicate with staff and parents regarding student behavior promptly

Assist in the planning , developing, and implementation of behavior plans

Keeps documentation and records for discipline

Prepare required reports and documentation regarding student discipline as required by state law


Faculty Supervision, Training, and Support


Assists staff with the creation of classroom student behavioral and classroom management plans

Serve as an instructional resource for behavioral intervention management techniques

Assists teachers with behavior management plans and strategies 

Oversee the discipline documentation process and train faculty in appropriate record-keeping procedures regarding student discipline

Mentoring junior and veteran teachers in classroom management and discipline 

Developing, coordinating, and implementing professional development 


Student Culture and Activities


Oversee new student induction and orientation for successful transition into school culture

Oversee student activities, house system, extracurricular activities, clubs, and other competitive or performance programs and events

Oversee house system and heads of house. Heads of house obtain approval from and collaborate with the Dean of Students regarding all house events

Oversee the sorting of upper school students into Houses

Manages club application and approval of student clubs using school policy

Approves and oversees club, athletic, and fine arts fundraising activities with school staff


Student Attendance


Monitor attendance and work with parents and staff to resolve individual attendance or truancy issues

Communicate with parents and students re: excessive absence or attendance concerns


Collaboration


Assist the headmaster in running the school

Serves on the Site Executive Team

Make recommendations for revision of family handbooks, student guidelines, school rules and procedures, and other rules and regulations

Minimum Job Requirements:




Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government


Bachelor's Degree, and preferably Master's Degree in related field


Experience in classical education preferred 


Communicate with students, staff, and guardians in a professional manner


Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers


Organizational skills


Write and maintain records, disciplinary reports, and performance evaluations manually or using a computer


Manage and respond to high-stress situations, including disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, and sensitive communications with students and parents


Understanding and adherence to all ACA mission, vision, and policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies



Physical Requirements:




Lift up to 30 pounds


Traverse the classroom and the school


Prolonged periods of sitting, working on computer


Able to supervise outdoor duties
