Blaming charters for segregation is dumb

Every year, someone sounds the alarm about the “resegregation of American public schools.” It’s a problem with deep roots and is said to have nasty downstream consequences for students in communities with less social capital. Some of the discussion is grounded in solid, authoritative research. But then there are the terrible takes that, for example, blame charter schools—serving just 7 percent of U.S. students—for the complex systemic issue of racial segregation.
