WORKING TO IMPROVE QUALITY
The Colorado League of Charter Schools is dedicated to supporting charter schools across Colorado. We are committed to helping schools reach higher levels of student performance and overall operational success. While we will come in with a critical eye, we are also on “your team” and want the absolute best for your students and school. All of our experts are Colorado-based, experienced charter school leaders. We look forward to working with you.
School Quality Review
The purpose of the League’s School Quality Review is to provide school leadership and governing boards with an evidence-based, objective, and triangulated body of evidence to drive systemic continuous improvement within the school’s unique model and mission.
The League team of 4-7 education professionals and experts spend three days on-site. The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Standards for Continuous Improvement rubric is the primary assessment instrument that drives the reviews.
Data used to assess this rubric is collected and triangulated through stakeholder interviews, classroom observations, and document review.
The Review concludes with the team lead providing the school with 1) a fully completed assessment rubric with evidence, 2) an executive summary of strengths, and 3) recommended next steps for school improvement.
After this thorough body of evidence is presented it may be partnered with student outcome data to build a precise and effective school improvement plan. The school review team is also available to then facilitate staff at the school in using this review to create and implement detailed and actionable
school improvement plans to improve student performance.
Why a School Quality Review? Renewal or SPF
Many schools chose to complete a School Quality Review in preparation for their upcoming charter renewal. The League offers this service to evaluate your current programming, processes and compliance documentation. This is a great service to make sure you are prepared for the renewal application and authorizer review. Other schools who are in Turnaround or Priority Improvement status use our review process to create a plan to improve their state rating. Either way, the League is here to support your school.
A FOUR-PART PROCESS FOR YOUR SCHOOL
1. External Holistic Diagnostic Review
Specially trained team of education experts provide a comprehensive evaluation based on The Standards-Based Teaching/Learning Cycle (second edition) research basis, the Colorado Standards and Indicators for Continuous School Improvement, board leadership standards, and standards addressing charter school financial practices.
2. Stakeholder Engagement
A League expert will work with your stakeholders (e.g., building leadership, teachers, families, community members, board members) to ensure their engagement in the school improvement process. Our engagement work aligns with the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships.
3. Improvement Planning
Building off of the school’s diagnostic review report, a League expert will assist stakeholders in the completion of the improvement plan.
Our team goes one step further by working with the school to develop detailed project plans to ensure implementation success of action steps.
4. Implementation Support*
After the creation of the unified improvement plan and detailed project plans, a League expert will provide implementation support. Supports can include a combination of on-site and virtual platforms.
*Your EASI Grant funding can be used for Implementation Support.
