FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Headmaster
Work Hours/Days: School days Monday-Friday, 8 hrs/day plus unpaid lunch break
Desired Start Date: Immediately
Pay Range: $21-25 per hour

Position Summary:

We are looking for a School Custodian and Facilities Lead to help maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of our facilities.The Custodian and Facilities Lead is responsible for keeping education facilities, equipment, furnishings clean and organized, as well as supporting all operational tasks of the school (inventory, lunch, student drop-off and pick-up, building safety, etc.). Essential Functions:

  • Conduct daily inspections to hold himself and staff accountable for meeting the expectations of a clean and orderly school 
  • Perform general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies 
  • Perform routine maintenance of custodial equipment, supplies, and any other facilities needs. Sometimes perform this maintenance alongside a contractor or other vendor, and/or know when it is necessary to contact an outside contractor to repair or replace the equipment or item
  •  Communicate regularly with all staff about status updates on operations requests 
  • Working in conjunction with the Inventory Specialist, oversee the cleaning supply stock and making orders as necessary
  • Ensure that Purchase Requests are filled out and submitted in a timely fashion to ensure we have the Custodial supplies the team requires 
  • Collaborate with New Hills Church staff in maintaining high standards for cleanliness and functionality of the shared school/church space 
  • Ensure facilities equipment is working properly, reporting any malfunctions to the Landlord or Headmaster as necessary
  • Ensure that vendors are held accountable to promised timelines and communicate to the rest of the team issues about timelines 
  • Support the set-up and tear-down of all year-round school events at our facilities. 
  • Assist with school IT needs 
  • Empty trash receptacles, dispose of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bag trash for proper disposal
  • Unlock doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  • Support student drop-off and pick-up procedures each day 
  • Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels 
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Follow existing methods and procedures for maintaining the facility to meet regulatory requirements and accountability reporting 
  • Abide by and adhere to all normal safety or security regulations and reports infractions 
  • Responsible for maintaining and certain standard of cleanliness and sanitation and associated documentation 
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Use common cleaning materials and equipment in a safe and efficient manner 
  • Learn custodial procedures, methods and schedules
  • Observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean working order
  • Operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, carpet cleaners, vacuum cleaner, and other small power and hand tools
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events
  • Meet schedules and timelines 
  • Adherence to all school policies
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds 
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school 
  • Prolonged periods of standing/sitting 
  • Environment: Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures exceeding 90 degrees at times.
  • Regular exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises. • Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals such as disinfectants, graffiti remover, floor stripper, floor wax, propane, paint thinner
  • Working on ladders at varying heights 
  • Physical Demands • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time. • Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform custodial duties
  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds. • Occasional bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally
  • Climbing ladders and working from varying heights as necessary 
  • Hazards 
  • Working with chemicals, tools, and powered machinery
  • Possible contact with blood borne pathogens and /or bodily fluids.
