High School Counselor, Long-Term Substitute
Peak to Peak Charter School
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains the college counseling center
Gathers and disseminates collegiate information to students
Organizes and delivers college-related events, such as FAFSA and financial aid nights, to parents and students
Assists students in evaluating career interests and college choice.
Recommends students for college admission and scholarships
Communicates with parents and students about the college application process
Manages the college application process for the designated alphabet of students at Peak to Peak
Coordinates and attends visits to Peak to Peak by college admissions representatives
Supports students in providing information concerning summer programs & internships.
Provides academic advising and placement for students
Provides support and guidance to high school students with an emphasis on academic planning
Regularly teaches in a classroom setting on any and all academic, college, social, and emotional issues in the counseling curriculum
Provides instructional guidance and support to students in a classroom setting
Provides academic scheduling, course selection, and schedule changes for students in core and elective courses in coordination with faculty, principals, students, and parents
Provides student orientation for new and/or transfer students in cooperation with the principals
Provides crisis counseling and social, emotional services, as well as intervention and referral services as needed
Makes referrals or requests for psychological testing, as appropriate, with the special education supervisor and the school psychologist
Works closely with the student services department in coordinating efforts for special education students and those with special needs
In cooperation with the high school principal, applies placement guidelines to individual students to determine appropriate placement for each student
Works with principals to facilitate the resolution of problems that arise among teachers, students, and parents
Keeps current and in compliance with all relevant BVSD, state, and Peak to Peak counseling regulations and guidelines
Maintains counseling crisis response protocols and plans
Responsible for all 504 and MTSS for students in the assigned alphabet and is a member of the problem-solving team.
Advises the administrators, teachers, and parents of urgent or significant concerns as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Education or High School Principal
Education, Experience, and Desired Skills:
B.A. or B.S. college degree required
Master’s degree in counseling required. Alternatively, holding a Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) license or an Intern Authorization with the Colorado Department of Education meets the master’s degree requirement for this position
At least three years of HS counseling experience preferred.
Strong organizational and coordination skills
Demonstrated experience working with challenge groups in a student-centered environment, including using assessments to place students, curriculum compacting, flexible pacing, flexible instruction, grouping and regrouping, acceleration, enrichment, and independent study to meet student needs.
Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach.
Highly developed written and oral communication skills are required
Proficient with a variety of computer programs, including Google Suite & other technology to support learning
Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction
Ability to assess grade level needs and plan and organize accordingly.
Ability to apply superb judgment in a timely manner
