Position Purpose
The Business Manager works under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for managing the financial operations for the school. This position is also responsible for handling several HR functions necessary for processing appropriate new hire/employee paperwork.
Job Duties:
- Upholds CECs beliefs found on the CEC website.
- Supervises the fiscal operations of the school using standard accounting/bookkeeping principles and procedures in accordance with CEC policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable laws.
- Maintains accurate financial records within CECs financial management system (SDS) including up-to-date records of accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Collaborates with the CFO to prepare the school's annual budget, budget revisions, quarterly budget reports, and other financial documents as requested.
- Processes monthly payroll, including timesheets submitted by hourly and non-exempt staff.
- Collects money from students for failed/withdrawn class(es); withdrawals; tuition voucher overages; pre-paid, unreturned, or damaged textbooks; late fees; and other miscellaneous fees.
- Manages all P-card activities for the school including accurate end-of-month transaction coding and uploading of receipts, investigating P-card possible fraud, and assisting with P-card replacements and/or requests.
- Reviews new hire packet and policies/procedures with new staff and ensures completion of all required HR paperwork prior to new staff starting.
- Prepares revised grant budgets to Colorado Charter School Institute for approval, if appropriate.
- Participates in professional development and safety and security trainings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (required)
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in business management, finance, or accounting (school experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, payroll, grants, HR compliance, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with ERP/financial systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
