Position Summary:

Special Education Teachers and Case Managers are dedicated to mastering the key elements of their services and to the intellectual and moral betterment of their students. ACAND is seeking an experienced Special Education specialist who is passionate about building systems and programs to serve students with disability in a rich and rigorous classical program. ACAND is currently K through 9th grade and will be adding grades as our students grow.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred
- Current license in Special Education or current enrollment in licensure program
- Expertise in Special Education programs and planning
- Loyalty to the school and ACAND's mission and vision
- Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
- Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
Essential Functions:
- Develop programs and plans compliant with federal and state mandates which align with the mission and pedagogy of our Hillsdale College curriculum.
- Maintain student service, assessment and progress monitoring schedule.
- Manage support staff in the delivery of services and accommodations.
- Build strong relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Collaborate with school staff and administration as ACAND grows.
- Support the promotion of virtue in all functions.
- Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.
Special education duties:
- Create lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum in alignment with federal and state mandates
- Organize and conduct IEP meetings for students on caseload
- Evaluate students for special education according to IDEA and CDE guidelines
- Schedule and manage services provided by para professionals
- Schedule and manage IEP meetings with parents and teachers
- Complete relevant paperwork, including writing IEPs, documenting student's progress and creating reports in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner
- Attend all relevant training on curricula, programs, school policy and other professional
- Development opportunities for staff to provide Tier 1 interventions
- Manage MTSS systems for the identification of further need
- Maintenance of Good Parental Relations:
- Communicate regularly with parents on student achievement and concerns
- Meet with parents and staff to discuss the educational plan for each student
- Complete all required training and provide documentation
- Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
