Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and content support to develop teachers and staff:
  • Classroom observations and review of observation feedback as a basis for professional growth, contributing to the evaluation of teachers and staff.
  • Engages teachers and staff in peer observation and reflection.
  • Facilitates planning of standards-based, PRA curriculum-aligned instruction
  • Manages instructional resources and provides training on their use.
  • Supports the effective use of instructional technology in classrooms.
  • Models instructional strategies and curriculum implementation in classes.
  • Plans and implements staff development activities.
  • Dialogues with mentors and consulting teachers assigned to support teachers

Leads the content department to ensure the implementation of the instructional program:

  • Meets routinely with the department; ensures info is disseminated to all staff
  • Facilitates collaborative sessions focused on student data and instructional implications to ensure all students receive appropriate instruction, to identify students in need of support, and to facilitate instructional planning.
  • Assists in determining appropriate class placement for students.
  • Monitors grading and reporting to ensure consistency between teachers.
  • Creates and manages the annual department budget and budget requests.
  • Identifies curriculum needs in collaboration with K8 Principal; assists with department course, resource, and material support proposals and presentations.
  • Ensures that school and department non-negotiables (academic recovery, office hours, athletic and special-event eligibility, and the MTSS process) are in place.
  • Participates in student/parent/teacher conferences and communication.

Develops and leads the K8 MTSS process and oversees the provision of Tier II support by classroom teachers, instructional and intervention paras: 

  • Facilitate and participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) progress monitoring meetings with instructional staff.
  • Assist teachers in identifying students needing targeted small group instruction and ensure effective progress monitoring
  • Analyze content area assessment data and oversee assessment periods, ensuring staff have the correct assessments and training.
  • Oversight, supervision, and strategic deployment of ES instructional paras to support student learning & professional development of staff.

Participates in the school leadership team to plan a school-wide instructional and assessment program that ensures coherence, consistency, and varied approaches to curriculum implementation appropriate for all students:

  • Represents content area needs at Curriculum Committee meetings.
  • Monitors implementation of grading and reporting procedures
  • Assists with the hiring of new teachers
  • Assists in the development of the master schedule
  • Helps design, implement, and monitor the K8 UIP, including analysis and presentation, as needed, of academic data
  • Attends district and school meetings and shares information as needed
  • Provides assistance and support to substitute teachers
  • Works with the administration, school finance staff, and teachers to order, distribute, and maintain an accurate inventory of instructional materials within the department budget

School & Community Engagement

  • As full-time, salaried employees, K8 Content Specialists are expected to contribute to the organization's success beyond the traditional school day. This may include:
  • Sponsoring a club or coaching a team (may include a stipend).
  • Serving on committees or task forces (at least once a month).

Required Education & Experience

  • B.A. or B.S. required in related Science or Education fields.
  • Must meet the state certification requirements within the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  • Current Colorado Teaching License in applicable content area.
  • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
  • Commitment to PRA Mission and Vision.
  • Commitment to the implementation of Character Education and Positive Behavior System.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is sometimes performed outside and in all weather conditions, including possible exposure to loud noises.
  • Work hours may occasionally be extended.
