Colorado State Capitol | Denver

Bring your students to the Capitol for a morning of advocacy, learning, and hands-on civic engagement.

Advocacy Day gives charter school students, educators, and leaders the opportunity to experience the legislative process firsthand—and this year, students won't just observe it. Participating schools will have the opportunity to meet with legislators and share their perspectives directly with Colorado policymakers.

Participation is free for all attendees, and meals will be provided.

Bring Your Voice to the Capitol

What does advocacy look like in action?

At Advocacy Day 2027, students from charter schools across Colorado will have the opportunity to find out.

Throughout the morning, participants will learn about the legislative process, explore issues affecting Colorado charter schools, see the General Assembly in action, and participate in legislative visits with state policymakers.

It's a chance for students to connect what they learn about government and civic engagement in the classroom with a real-world experience at the Colorado State Capitol.

What Is Advocacy Day?

IMG_9391.jpg

Advocacy Day brings Colorado's charter school community together at the State Capitol to learn, connect, and advocate for charter public schools.

Throughout the morning, participants will gain insight into the legislative process, hear from state leaders, explore education policy and legislation affecting charter schools, and see the Colorado General Assembly in action.

It's also an opportunity to demonstrate the collective impact of Colorado's charter school community and reinforce an important message: charter schools are free, public, and open to all students.

Through meaningful engagement with policymakers and the democratic process, participants will help elevate the needs of charter schools and the students and families they serve.

 Who Should Attend?

Advocacy Day is designed for Colorado charter school communities, including:

✔️ High School and Middle School students interested in government, leadership, advocacy, or civic engagement

✔️ Teachers and educators looking to connect classroom learning with real-world public policy

✔️ School leaders and staff who want to advocate for their schools and better understand the legislative process

School Group Size

Our recommended group size is 10 or fewer students to ensure an optimal experience during the legislator visit portion of the event, plus the necessary adult chaperones.

Space is limited, so schools are encouraged to register early.

A Real-World Learning Experience for Students

A key part of Advocacy Day is giving students the opportunity to move beyond observing the legislative process and participate in it firsthand.

During their time at the Capitol, participating schools will coordinate visits with legislators, giving students the opportunity to meet with elected officials, ask questions, share their school experiences, and advocate for Colorado's charter school community.

Preparing for Your Legislative Visit

We want students and chaperones to feel prepared and confident before arriving at the Capitol.

At least one chaperone from each participating school will be required to complete pre-event preparation provided by the League. Resources will cover what to expect, how to prepare students, and tips for having an effective conversation with legislators.

Additional information about legislative visits and the preparation process will be shared with registered schools leading up to Advocacy Day.
