Nov Business & Operations Quarterly Meeting Recap: Facility Grants + Recording

Thanks to everyone who joined our November meeting on facility grants!

    Key Takeaways:
    - The State Facilities Incentive Grant (SFIG) deadline has been extended! Schools must submit the Intent to Apply & Eligibility Form by Friday, December 5. This federal funding can support rent, debt service, construction, renovations, and leasehold improvements—on a reimbursement basis—with strict “supplement not supplant” rules.
    - The BEST program continues to prioritize projects tied to health, safety, and security, with roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, secure vestibules, and similar needs being most competitive. Budget reductions may mean a smaller cash grant pool this cycle.
    - Kitchen facilities matter: many charters lack full prep kitchens, which directly limits meal quality, access, and long-term program design. Schools planning renovations or new spaces should integrate kitchen planning early with qualified experts.
