Board and Governance

Supporting Boards of Directors

While traditional public schools are governed by the local school district's board of directors, charter schools are unique public schools that feature a board of directors at the school level. Effective governance is a critical component of a high-quality charter school, and their boards are responsible for ensuring effective organizational planings while developing a sound strategic plan to support governance and leadership.

With that in mind, providing adequate training is essential to both risk management and the success of a school, and should be prioritized annually. To strengthen charter boards throughout the state, the League offers both on-demand and in-person training opportunities as well as strategic planning facilitation for your board and school leadership team.

Strategic Planning

Cost: Focus Group Facilitation $500/group  |  Strategic Planning Board Facilitation $1500  | Drafting Strategic Plan $175-$250 an hour

Best practices suggest schools use a strategic plan to drive their goals and work. Updated annually, typical strategic plans cover a three-to-five year period and can be instrumental in preparing for your charter renewal. We can support each step of the process, flexing to meet your needs and budget. The strategic planning process includes gathering stakeholder feedback through focus groups of both staff and parents, facilitating a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis, and developing your strategic plan goals with metrics and timelines.
