πŸŽ“ Senior Spotlight: Danica Cooper, CEC Windsor

Many of this year's Charter Champions are leaving high school and heading into the next phase of their life! To celebrate, we're catching up with each of them to discover what's next in both life and leadership.

What specific skills or knowledge did you acquire as a Charter Champion that you find most valuable?

I was able to find my story and learn about how important my voice is. The advocacy portion of the training was very beneficial, and I will use it all the time in my near future.

What are your next plans, and how do you envision your role as a leader evolving in that setting?

I plan on attending college. Because of my charter school I was able to attend college courses while getting my high school diploma, putting me multiple steps closer to my degree. I would love to speak out about how much this impacted me and changed my life, hopefully influencing others to go to a CEC near them.

Are there particular causes or issues within your community or beyond that you feel passionate about championing using the tools you've gained?

There are major political issues that I feel extremely passionate about. I will use the skills that I've gained from this training to share my voice and my story, hopefully changing the views of some people.

What advice would you offer to students considering the Charter Champions program?

Do it. This training has shown me how impactful charter schools are for students who want a greater education. This opportunity could give you a push in the right direction.

Do you know a high school student leader in your community? Nominations for the Class of 2025 will open in September.
