Building Community and Confidence at CIVA Charter High School

CIVA Charter High School is kicking off the year with its signature Forum assemblies, where student voice, creativity, and community spirit shine through music, storytelling, and shared celebration.

CIVA Charter High School is kicking off the school year with its signature mix of creativity, connection, and community. From musical performances that earn standing ovations to student-led yearbook presentations, the school’s weekly “Forum” assembly serves as a living example of how CIVA uplifts and celebrates its students.

A Forum Full of Voice and Energy

During a recent visit, League staff joined the Forum and saw firsthand the energy and attentiveness of the student body. Staff members and teachers shared announcements, recognized students with awards, and two students brought down the house with their songs—“Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Army Dreamers”—each receiving roaring applause from their peers. The morning also featured enrichment videos and a spirited call for student yearbook submissions.

League Director of Events Caymin Harper spoke early in the Forum, sharing her own story of education and career, and was met with full attention and a round of applause. The moment underscored the respect and engagement of the CIVA student body, which remained focused throughout the entire assembly without phones in sight.

A Culture of Connection and Exploration

Beyond the Forum, the League’s school tour brought CIVA’s culture to life—a tight-knit community where students genuinely cheer each other on. Even when challenges arise, the tone remains positive and focused on solutions, a quality we saw firsthand when several students went out of their way to warmly welcome and compliment our visiting team.

Looking ahead, CIVA students are gearing up for an international adventure with a school trip to Japan through EF Tours, a chance to immerse themselves in new cultures and perspectives. True to their spirit of leadership and advocacy, students also showed excitement for opportunities like the League’s Advocacy Day and Charter Champions, eager to bring their voices and talents beyond the walls of their school.

CIVA’s focus on connection, creativity, and community sets the stage for a school year filled with growth, exploration, and pride. With students leading the way in both performance and participation, CIVA is modeling what it means to create an environment where every voice matters and every student belongs.
