PURPOSE

District/Schools/BOCES finances are growing more complex and more challenging. Task-oriented
and deadline-driven practices can be limiting. Day 1’s training aims to empower district leadership
teams to make their school finance approach more strategic and effective in service of the district’s
goals and priorities for student outcomes. Day 2’s goal is to discuss accounting basics facing
districts, schools, and BOCES.

AGENDA

Day 1: Thursday, May 1, 2025 8:30am-5:00pm
● Colorado context for school finance
● Strategic School Finance: Strategic plan, Mission/vision, UIP
● Addressing the top issues facing your district through a personalized tool
● Grant Management
● Salary Schedules, Staffing, & Fair Labor Standards Act compliance

Day 2: Friday, May 2, 2025 8:00am-2:00pm
● Governmental Accounting Basics:
○ Modified Accrual vs Cash Basis (Example: Property Tax)
○ Chart of Accounts
● Budget Assumptions, Guiding Principles, & Timelines for FY26
○ School Finance Formula
● Opportunity for individual district workshopping Friday AM
