Charter Champions is a one-year advocacy training program for a diverse group of charter high school students who aspire to be leaders in their community. Champions will define what it means to be a student leader by collaborating with their peers and promoting a culture of excellence.
Objectives & Outcomes
- The Charter School Champions program seeks to empower charter student leaders to become the next generation of advocates for high-quality public education.
- Students will have a valuable leadership training that can be used in their professional careers
- Students will understand charter school basics in the local and national context to become the next generation of charter school advocates
- Students will emerge as well-equipped leaders in their communities, with the tools to let their voices be heard by all the institutions that serve them.
Curriculum & Content
Champions will participate in four after-school online sessions between October 2025 and May 2026. Training sessions will consist of a mix of lectures, discussions, and skills application. Topics for training sessions will include Charter Basics, Effective Advocacy, Communications Skills, and Leadership with participants able to request content specific to their outcomes. The program will culminate in the Charter Champions awards ceremony and the League Annual Conference on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026.
