GALS Overview

GALS is an all-girls (inclusive), public charter school serving 240 students in 6th-8th grades. GALS empowers students to succeed academically, lead confidently, live boldly, and thrive physically. GALS provides an innovative and necessary educational option that incorporates health and wellness education to optimize academic achievement, focusing on identity development. The school follows standards-based practices and classes incorporate an inquiry-based approach to learning, and integration of movement in academic programming.

About the Position

Paraprofessionals provide one-on-one support to students and implement instructional, medical, and behavioral interventions. They also contribute to the overall daily operations and functioning of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors designated students for medical activity and well-being.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides care and basic first aid as needed.
  • Maintains communication regarding student needs with parents, nurses, and the learning specialist.
  • Accompanies students throughout the school building, including bathroom breaks, and encourages positive social interactions.
  • Facilitates communication across settings through the use of assistive technology.
  • Supports nutrition and feeding needs.
  • Provides daily family communication and support.
  • Supports instruction by:
    • Pre-teaching and re-teaching concepts and skills.
    • Leading small-group instruction.
    • Breaking down directions and assignments into manageable steps.
    • Assisting with the use of graphic organizers.
    • Reinforcing positive habits and behavior management strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Leadership Team.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Belief in the GALS mission and vision, the organization’s code of conduct, gender biased schooling, and active pedagogy
  • Experience with diverse staff, student, and community populations
  • CPR trained or willingness to obtain training
  • Epilepsy response trained or willingness to obtain training
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Calm demeanor in times of crisis

Salary and Application Process

Full Time non-exempt position, following our paraprofessional pay scale and benefits, with starting pay based on years of relevant experience. The salary scale for this position ranges from $21.00/hr – 32.00/hr.
