As Homeschooling Continues to Grow, John Adams Academy – Douglas County Launches FREE One-Day Classical Enrichment Program for Families

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — As more families continue exploring homeschooling and flexible learning options, John Adams Academy – Douglas County is introducing a new free one-day-a-week Homeschool Enrichment Program designed to provide students with meaningful academic experiences, friendships, and community connection while preserving the flexibility families value most.

Beginning this fall, the Homeschool Enrichment Thursdays program will offer homeschool students in grades K–8 a full day of classical enrichment every Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The program is offered at no cost to participating homeschool families.

The program was created in response to growing interest from homeschool families seeking opportunities for their children to engage in enriching academic experiences while also building friendships and participating in a broader school community.

Many homeschooling families are looking for both flexibility and connection. We wanted to create a place where students can explore great ideas, learn alongside peers, and experience joyful learning while still honoring the individuality and freedom homeschooling provides.”

Students will participate in a homeschool-friendly model that combines shared core lessons with age-appropriate enrichment activities designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, discussion, and hands-on exploration.

Classes and enrichment opportunities include:

  • Geography and Map Making
  • Literature
  • Creative Writing
  • Nature Studies
  • World and American Heroes
  • Creative Drawing
  • Physical Education

Students will be grouped into two age-based communities, grades K–4 and grades 5–8, with programming intentionally designed to foster both academic engagement and social connection.

School leaders say the program is about more than academics alone.

“Our goal is to help cultivate wonder, curiosity, character, and belonging,” Kiesewetter said. “Children need opportunities to build friendships, engage with meaningful ideas, and simply enjoy learning together.”

In addition to classroom enrichment, students will participate in lunch, recess, and community-building activities throughout the day. Homeschool students enrolled in the enrichment program will also have opportunities to participate in sports and clubs offered through the school community.

The Homeschool Enrichment Thursdays program is part of the school’s broader mission to provide families with flexible educational options rooted in classical education and character formation.

John Adams Academy – Douglas County is a tuition-free public charter school opening with grades K–8 for the 2026–2027 inaugural school year.
