Important notice on federal funding ‘under consideration’

Dear School Leaders and Business Managers,

You may have seen the news over the past couple of days that the US Department of Education has informed state education agencies that the agency won't be sending states' funds on July 1 from certain programs.

The State of Colorado reports that it has not received money for the following programs:

  • Title I, Part C – Education of Migratory Children- “Migrant Education”
  • Title II-A: Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants
  • Title III-A: English Language Acquisition
  • Title IV-B — 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC)
  • Project AWARE grant, 2022 cohort
  • Social Security Act Title V Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE)
  • Partial Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, specifically, we have not received Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education allocations
  • Centers for Disease Control Healthy Schools grant

Colorado Commissioner of Education, Susana Cordova sent out this message, and these articles were in the news (EdWeek, Politico, and GovExec) as background on this issue.

We wanted to let you know that we’re looking into the impacts and seeking ongoing clarification from the Colorado Department of Education and our federal partners. We recommend that you evaluate your own grants under these programs and let us know how you might be affected. If further action is warranted, we will be in touch. However, we wanted to assure you that we are closely monitoring this situation on your behalf.
