Big News: $9 Million Boost for Great Schools Colorado
TO OUR GREAT SCHOOLS NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS & SCHOOL LEADERS:
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Colorado League of Charter Schools an additional $9 million for our Great Schools Colorado initiative. This increases the total funding we’ll administer through the Charter Schools Program over the next five years to $77 million, which is a considerable boost for charter schools across the state. The League was awarded $68 million in 2024.
The supplemental award is provided by the Department of Education’s Charter Schools Program (CSP). It will increase the number of subgrants available to new, expanding, or replicating charter schools in Colorado. Additionally, it will provide funds for technical assistance to enhance high-quality educational options for schools serving students statewide.
With these resources, the League can provide even more support to schools that are innovating, growing, and meeting the unique needs of students across Colorado. Charter schools give families choices and help level the playing field for students. This supplemental award ensures that even more students can access the learning environments that best meet their needs.
We’re proud of what this funding means for the charter school community and for Colorado students. We’re still awaiting final guidance from the Department on all exact allowable uses of the funds. Please stay tuned for updates in October.
I’d like to thank Tanesha Bell, Bright Homawoo, and all members of the grant team for their hard work supporting our Great Schools Colorado initiative. And, I’d like to thank you for all that you do to make our schools places where every student can thrive.
Forward Together,
Dawna Taylor, Executive Lead
