About Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County
Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County is a classical public charter school in Douglas County with grades K-12. Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County is the first replication school in the Ascent Classical Academies network, with Golden View Classical Academy being its flagship school. The school is also affiliated with the Barney Charter School Initiative at Hillsdale College. The classical school model is proven and among the highest performing school models in Colorado. Students in the grammar school will be given teacher-led direct instruction using the approach found in the content-rich, Core Knowledge sequence. The school uses explicit phonics with a strong focus on literacy, spelling, and grammar, along with learning cursive handwriting. All students read great books that have withstood the test of time. Numeracy mastery is pursued through the Singapore Math program, with students grouped by ability. As students progress to the upper school, they are engaged in more Socratic learning and seminars, relying heavily on original source documents. All students begin Latin from 6th through at least 9th grade in order to obtain a deeper understanding of the English language. The broad education in the liberal arts and sciences, to include humanities, science, math, art, and music, is designed to prepare young people to flourish, be self-governing and to develop their desire to seek truth, beauty, and goodness throughout their lives. In addition to providing a rigorous academic and intellectual culture, Ascent Classical Academies strive to develop the character and virtue of young people throughout its program, in an orderly and disciplined environment.
