Good evening _,

The Special Session opened today at the Capitol, where lawmakers began work on closing an $800 million budget gap caused by changes to the federal tax law. They will also revisit the artificial intelligence legislation passed in 2024.

By rule, bills must be considered on separate days to become law, so a special session requires at least three legislative days to complete its work.  However, leaders from both parties are already signaling it could extend past Tuesday.

As we shared last week, K–12 funding is not formally on the agenda. However, because education makes up such a large share of the state budget, we expect it to be part of the broader discussion. The Governor has also indicated that adjustments to the new funding formula are on the table.

Our League team is closely engaged at the Capitol. We are monitoring every development and ensuring that the interests of charter schools remain protected. We will keep you informed with timely updates as the session unfolds.
