In this session, DSST Public Schools will share its innovative Tiered School Supports (TSS) framework, designed to accelerate student achievement through strategic, differentiated support for schools. Built on the belief that coherence between people, processes, and tools leads to stronger outcomes, participants will:
- Understand the design and purpose of DSST’s Tiered School Supports framework
- Explore how Priority Supports are identified, launched, and monitored
- Apply tools and routines to build coherent support systems in their own contexts
After walking through an overview of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports as well as key roles and decision-making structures, attendees will deep dive into priority supports. The session concludes with an interactive planning activity and every attendee receives access to DSST’s tools, including a partnership agreement template and Tiered Support Hub.
Nella García Urban became the CEO of DSST Public Schools in March 2024, succeeding the founding CEO Bill Kurtz.
Nella came to DSST from YES Prep Public Schools where she spent over 20 years leading and operating charter schools.
She graduated from Rice University as a Mellon Mays Fellow and received a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University in Education Leadership. Nella has completed the Pahara Fellowship, the Broad Academy for Superintendents program, and is a certified Executive Coach through the John Doerr Institute at Rice University.
Nella is the Board Chair of LEAL - Latino Educators Advancing Leadership - an organization working to increase the number of Latino leaders in charter schools.
