Join a dynamic panel of former federal Charter Schools
Program (CSP) grant recipients as they share their firsthand experiences navigating the grant process and the impact it had on their schools. From securing funding and overcoming unexpected hurdles to managing compliance and financial stewardship, the panelists will provide valuable insights into the challenges and successes of implementing CSP grants. They’ll discuss how the funding allowed their schools to innovate, expand, and address critical issues such as equity and access, and offer
advice on ensuring sustainability once the grant period ends.

Participants will learn practical strategies for effective budgeting, maximizing community partnerships, and leveraging external resources to enhance the impact of federal funding. Panelists will also reflect on what future applicants should know, how to tackle common reporting requirements, and their vision for the future of charter schools as federal funding evolves. This session will equip charter school leaders with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration needed to make the most of their CSP opportunities and navigate the complexities of the grant lifecycle.

Bright Homawoo

Grant and Technical Manager, Colorado League of Charter Schools

Bright Homawoo is the Grant Manager & Technician for Great Schools Colorado, where he leads the implementation of the CSP subgrant program. He organizes annual competitions, selects and trains reviewers, and manages drawdown requests. Bright serves as the primary liaison to charter school grant recipients, overseeing performance tracking, report preparation, and coordinating site visits. Previously, Bright led The Cultivated Fool, an art therapy platform focused on mental health stigma, and served in various educational roles, including Manager of Community Partnerships at Clayton Early Learning. He holds a BA and a Master's in Special Education from the University of Nebraska.
