(57) Decoding Culture: From Diagnosis to Action

11am – 12pm MST, 4 March 2027 ‐ 1 hour

Room: Red Rock 2

Workshop Sessions

Culture is one of the most discussed yet least understood forces in schools. Leaders recognize its importance, but understanding how it forms—and how to change it intentionally—requires looking beneath the surface.

This session introduces a practical equation: Inputs + Cognition × Interaction = Organizational Culture. Examine how leadership decisions and messages, individual staff interpretations, and everyday interactions combine to create shared beliefs and expectations.

Explore how these dynamics influence staff satisfaction and retention, then use the research-based Competing Values Framework and a condensed Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument to:

Identify your school's dominant culture type.
Compare current conditions with your desired culture.
Recognize gaps and opportunities for leadership intervention.
Connect cultural patterns to staff experiences and retention.

Leave with a diagnostic worksheet you can use with your leadership team to assess organizational culture and prioritize meaningful change.
