(156) Building Sustainable Special Education through Shared Services

1.30pm – 2.30pm MST, 4 March 2027 ‐ 1 hour

Room: Red Rock 3

Workshop Sessions

Finding qualified special education providers is difficult. Building a sustainable system that supports students, meets compliance requirements, and fits a charter school's budget can be even harder.

Through a case study of the Minga Special Education Group (MSEG) model, examine an alternative to traditional agency staffing and district buy-back arrangements. Learn how integrated, multidisciplinary teams and fractional staffing can help schools coordinate services, share specialized expertise, and strengthen internal leadership capacity.

The session explores:

Staffing + sustainability: Aligning specialized providers with student needs and available resources.
Leadership + compliance: Building systems for IEP scheduling, service documentation, evaluation timelines, and oversight.
Long-term capacity: Using a three-phase approach to assessment, staffing, and sustainability, including potential charter collaborative and Administrative Unit pathways.

Participants will use a readiness checklist and 90-day planning framework to identify priorities and next steps for their schools.
