(108) Governing Through Crisis: Prepare, Respond, Lead

8.30am – 9.30am MST, 5 March 2027 ‐ 1 hour

Room: Willow Lake 3

Workshop Sessions

When a crisis hits a charter school, the board rarely has the luxury of time to figure out its role, decide who should be involved, or determine what happens next. The best time to prepare is before the board faces a difficult call or high-stakes decision.

Join Mark Weinberg and Mary Bradley, experienced governance and crisis-response experts from the National Charter Schools Institute, for a practical look at how boards can prepare for and effectively govern through challenging situations. Drawing on real-world experience, they'll share lessons on making sound decisions, communicating effectively, and avoiding common missteps under pressure.

Through two realistic crisis scenarios, participants will tackle critical questions:
What do we know?
What do we need to know?
Who should act?
And how can boards lead effectively when the stakes are high?
