Authorizing Basics: What It Is and Why It Matters

10.30am – 12pm MDT, 10 October 2025 ‐ 1 hour 30 mins

Breakout Sessions

What exactly do charter school authorizers do and why does it matter for students and families? This session offers a straightforward overview of what authorizers do for those who are not directly in the role. Participants will learn how authorizers approve, oversee, renew, and, when necessary, close schools, and why these responsibilities are critical to maintaining quality and equity. Drawing on our first year of work with the League through the CSP's absolute priority (high-quality authorizing), the Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA) will demonstrate how authorizing comes to life in practice and how we support districts in carrying out this role effectively.
