(98) Using CMAS Results to Plan for High-Quality Math Instruction

1.30pm – 2.30pm MST, 4 March 2027 ‐ 1 hour

Workshop Sessions

The most visible CMAS mathematics metrics—SPF ratings, achievement and growth scores, and percentages meeting expectations—carry high stakes for school leaders but offer limited guidance for identifying instructional priorities.

In this interactive workshop, look beneath the headline results to understand what grades 3–8 CMAS Mathematics assessments actually measure and how that information can support instructional planning. Examine connections among CMAS sub-claims, evidence statements, released assessment items, and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Pay particular attention to mathematical reasoning, modeling, and precision—areas that represent 40% of available assessment points but are often underemphasized in classroom instruction.

Using released CMAS items and your own school context, consider how to provide students with more consistent opportunities to reason, model, explain, and critique mathematical thinking. Leave with an outline for strengthening instructional priorities and professional learning in the coming school year.
