(38) An Immersive Approach to Problem-Based Learning

11am – 12pm MST, 26 February 2026 ‐ 1 hour

Room: Conifer (1,2,3)

Quality: Academics

Go beyond traditional case studies and simulated scenarios with an innovative model of Problem-Based Learning (PBL). By integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and inquiry-based concepts, educators can empower students to address real-world challenges in an era of rapid technological change. Attendees will learn how to design driving problems as compelling facts rather than questions, prompting students to ask the right questions, find resources, and implement solutions that create tangible change.

Foster a generation of learners who don't just understand problems, but actively work to solve them, utilizing an immersive, purpose-driven curriculum. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to:

- Structure entire units around a central problem, making learning a holistic journey where every lesson contributes to solving a core challenge
- Frame problems as factual observations rather than questions, challenging students to develop critical inquiry skills and navigate the complexities of information in the AI age
- Design units that encourage students to look inward and address personal and relational challenges as part of their problem-solving journey
- Foster student agency by enabling them to implement real solutions, advocate for change, and make an immediate impact on their immediate surroundings.
