Planning Grants: Starting a Charter School in Colorado

The League is able to offer developing groups planning grants thanks to two philanthropic organizations, the Anschutz Foundation and the Daniels Fund. The funding available to schools is limited to the amounts received by the League.

These grants enable groups to hire consultants, retain professionals, rent community space for meetings, create marketing materials, conduct research, travel to model schools, attend trainings, and conduct outreach.

There are no deadlines associated with these planning grants; grant proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. Please note that because of the holidays, any proposals received in the last few weeks of December will be reviewed in early January.

For further questions, and to determine eligibility and gain access to the grant applications please call or email League Staff at 303-989-5356 x113. Grant rubrics and guidelines are provided below to assist in your research and understanding of grant requirements. The Quality Standards for Developing Charter Schools are also included as they are a helpful guide as you develop both the planning grants and the charter application.

Below you can view the Planning Grant Guidelines for more details or access the grants and their corresponding evaluation rubrics:
