2019 Educator Summit (formerly Teacher Summit)

Educator Summit Expanding to Three Locations: Colorado Springs, Western Slope, & Denver Metro

The League's Academic Services team is focused on redefining quality professional development. One way the League intends to do this is by expanding our offerings to various locations around the state. We serve 255 charter schools across Colorado, however, the majority of our trainings are held in Denver.

The theme of this year’s Educator Summit is Redefining Quality: Teacher Inputs that Lead to Student Outcomes. Workshop strands will connect directly to increasing student outcomes and cover leadership development, best practices in academics, understanding student behavior, supporting exceptional students, and much more.

We hope that by offering this redefined event to various locations across the state, we are able to increase access and opportunity for all educators to attend a high-quality day of professional learning.

Colorado Springs Educator Summit:

Friday, June 7

7:45 AM - 3:00 PM

Location: New Summit Charter Academy, Colorado Springs

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Katie L. Anderson-Pence, Professor at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs

Katie L. Anderson-Pence is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs where she coordinates the elementary licensure programs. A true Ravenclaw at heart, she is most proud of her newly developed course, Teaching in a Muggle World, in which college freshmen examine teaching and learning through the lens of the Harry Potter book series. She also teaches undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in mathematics education and educational psychology.

Prior to joining the faculty at UCCS, Katie spent 8 years as an elementary classroom teachers and two years providing mathematics professional development for her school district. She loves to travel internationally to learn about education in other cultures, and she has visited schools in Egypt and Brazil. In 2014, she earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education and Leadership from Utah State University.

As an educational researcher and former classroom teacher, Katie’s research agenda is driven by a desire to connect research with classroom instructional practice. She believes that the more a teacher knows and understands about how students learn, the more effective he or she will be in delivering instruction. Likewise, the more connected a researcher is to actual classroom situations, the more his or her research will shed light on effective teaching practices. Her primary research interests are on rural education, teacher education, and technology in mathematics education. She is thrilled to be a part of the education community in the Southern Colorado region!
