Monument Academy names Chief Operating Officer
Monument Charter School announces Christianna Herrera as COO

Monument, Colo -- Monument Academy, a public charter school in Monument, Colorado is pleased to announce the hiring of Christianna Herrera as the Chief Operating Officer.

Monument Academy Board President Mark McWilliams said, “Mrs. Herrera is a creative and well-rounded educator, and the board at Monument Academy looks forward to her contributions in the next stage of our growth.”

Mrs. Herrera has been responsible for the implementation and execution of all educational programming at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. With over 15 years of experience in education, we are excited that she will bring a sound foundation of classical education that will align with the vision of Monument Academy to serve staff and families.

In addition, Christianna Herrera has been notably recognized for her contributions with the following:

  • The Colorado Springs Gazette for most student growth over five-year span
  • The Colorado Department of Education for establishing successful program in support of deficient readers
  • Developed, managed and oversaw the implementation of every phase of building a new school campus
  • Strategically refinanced by developing a new funding model that reduced interest rate from over 8% to 3.94% enabling the building of a new early education wing while lowering the new facility’s debt and monthly payments
  • Actively served on School Accreditation Teams and served on the District Chartering Committee which reviewed and recommended new Charter and Re-Chartering Applications
  • Successfully built, designed, developed, and opened an Early Education Program bringing the academy an additional $1.3 million in revenue
  • Enhanced and enriched the Home School program by developing a curriculum that offered the service to middle and high school students which resulted in increasing participants from 72 students to over 460
  • Established a comprehensive program that addressed new teacher support, mentorship, and scholarship program
  • Pursued and awarded over $400,000 of grant monies in support of the Academy’s development
  • Emphasized a robust program of character education that resulted in significantly improving school climate and dramatically reducing student behavior incidents
  • Increased student academic success, and earned awards and recognition within the educational community for art, science, geography, forensics, athletics, music, and community service

Mrs. Herrera holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction as well as her Principal Licensure from the State of Colorado.
