DENVER LANGUAGE SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE MOVE TO FORMER GILPIN MONTESSORI SCHOOL WITH RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY
DENVER, COLORADO - October 6, 2018 - The Denver Language School (DLS) welcomes media and community members to join in the celebration of its official move to the former Gilpin Montessori School Campus, Saturday, October 6. The “grand re-opening” will have Denver Public Schools board members in attendance, along with DLS Board members, staff and students.
Kathy Benzel, Executive Director of Denver Language School, said, “This move is a monumental opportunity for DLS. With the Gilpin facility, we have room to grow our student body, our academic offerings, and our learning environment. DLS is thrilled to be part of the rich culture of the neighborhood and excited to immerse our students in all the local opportunities. DLS looks forward to many wonderful years in the Gilpin building and neighborhood.”
The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will begin at 10 am MT, and will feature traditional Chinese and Spanish performances by DLS Middle School students.
In December 2017, The Denver Public School Board awarded the Denver Language School with the use of the Gilpin building for the coming years. DLS moved into the building in July 2018.
Built in October 1950, and formerly belonging to Gilpin Montessori School, (which closed at the end of the 2016-17 school year), the Gilpin Building is now home to approximately 350 4th-8th grade DLS students. The DLS at Whiteman campus is home to approximately 550 K-3rd grade students.
Being awarded this building was a tremendous milestone for this unique school who desperately needed more space and room to grow.
Denver Language School is a DPS K-8 charter school located in the Mayfair Park and Five Points neighborhoods of Denver, Colorado. The school offers full immersion model in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese to over 800 students. Founded in 2010, DLS is a top ten DPS middle school in Math, Science, and English in state and local test results.
