JOB TITLE:  BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT (BASE) CARE – PROGRAM LEADER

REPORTS TO: BASE Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Ben Franklin Academy is seeking a Child Care Program Leader who protects the safety and welfare of all children who participate in the B.A.S.E. Program, develops healthy relationships with children, provides quality programming and services, creates a safe and positive work environment, and connects effectively with stakeholders. Develops and promotes good community relations among various school clientele. Ben Franklin Academy expects to employ professionals who will work beyond job descriptions, creating both a fulfilling school environment and positive outcomes for our students.

SCHEDULE

  • *Split Shift*
  • School Year Schedule – 170 student days
    • Monday-Friday 6:45am-7:45am and 3:45pm-5:30pm
  • Summer Camp Schedule
    • Monday-Friday full time, schedule varies, June-Mid August

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure the safety of children by providing sufficient and appropriate supervision and guidance of children at all times.
  2. Build healthy relationships with children by actively engaging and relating with them in positive ways, recognizing and responding appropriately to their unique needs and interests, and promoting autonomy and responsibility.
  3. Utilize positive techniques to support and guide behavior, and promote respectful, cooperative interactions among children.
  4. Plan and implement program activities that provide children opportunities to learn and develop skills, explore interests, experience a sense of self-worth and belonging, and contribute to the community.
  5. Support program compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  6. Ensure a safe environment that protects the health and welfare of children and prevents physical and emotional harm.
  7. Develop and maintain connections with stakeholders to increase the ability of the program to support children.
  8. Create a safe and positive work environment by modeling collaboration, cooperation, respect, trust, and integrity with staff.
  9. Maximize professional development opportunities available and applies skills and concepts learned in order to improve performance and create significant value for the program.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION

  • Must be 18 years of age and demonstrate an ability to work with children
  • Must have three (3) months of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and

    verifiable experience with school-age children in areas such as Sunday School, scouts, sports, or baby-sitting.

  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions and Medication Administration (or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment)
  • Maintain requirements for 15 hours of continuing education each year as well as other required training
  • All CDHS required trainings and certifications must be current or taken within 30 days of hire

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of child development
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • General office equipment
  • Customer relations
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • College degree in related field (recreation, elementary or early childhood education, subject in human service field, etc.).
  • Professional preparation (formal post-secondary training) in child and youth development and other areas related to before and after school programming for school-age children.
  • Six (6) or more months experience working with school-age children in large group settings.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • None

    ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Mostly clean and comfortable
  • Occasional lifting five (5) to fifty (50) pounds
  • Frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, reaching, and sitting

    COMPENSATION

  • Pay range starts at $25.00/hour

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The hours may be longer when specific needs arise, thus some extended schedules will be necessary.  This is a position that must attend to the needs of staff, administrators, governing board and parents.  Ben Franklin Academy is a dynamic school subject to changing work environments and the adaptability to change is essential.
