Description: Problem Based Learning: An engaging, real-world and relevant instructional approach for any subject. Teachers and leaders will learn how to develop, implement and evaluate Problem Based Learning (PBL) lessons in the K-12 classroom. Participants will understand how to use PBL as a model for developing lessons that truly engage students, inspire teachers and respond to industry needs. The following essential questions will be addressed throughout the morning session: Backward Design: How do we effectively use the backward design concept in our unit planning while promoting engaging problem based learning opportunities? Skills & Implementation: How can a teacher engage and instruct each student while acknowledging their different learning styles, needs and interests?
Using Data for Differentiation: How do we evaluate students’ knowledge and use that information to improve our instruction? How do administrators evaluate the implementation of PBL in the classroom? The afternoon session will be reserved for development and planning of individual PBLs. Grade level teams, co-teaching teams, departments and instructional collaborators are encouraged to attend together. Individuals are also welcome. "
