Congrats charter school supporters!

The Colorado League of Charter Schools has spent the past several months vigorously opposing Colorado House Bill 24-1363. I am pleased to announce that it has been defeated by a vote of 8-3. The House Education Committee voted to kill it at its meeting tonight. Read the League’s statement.

This legislation took unnecessary aim at students benefiting from Colorado’s effective and impactful public charter school system. Regardless of zip code or background, all children in our state deserve access to high-quality public school options. HB24-1363 would have undermined the innovation, diversity, and opportunities that charter schools bring to Colorado’s educational landscape. It focused on politics and partisanship over the needs of tens of thousands of Colorado students and families.

We are grateful to every one of you who raised your voice to call for the defeat of HB24-1363. Over 50,000 emails were sent to legislators by individuals across our state who have benefited from public charter schools. Your advocacy made a difference.

This speaks not only to the value charter schools have brought to our public education system but also to the significant ways HB24-1363 would have negatively impacted our state’s 260+ charter schools and the more than 135,000 students they serve. We are proud to have been a leader of that opposition.

Rest assured that the League will continue to confront anyone who would deny Colorado’s students access to charter schools as a high-quality public education option. Charter schools are critical to the overall public school ecosystem in Colorado and profoundly impactful for the students, families, and communities they serve in nearly every legislative district in our state.
