What I Do For Charter Schools
(How Charter Schools Will Know Me)
I like to say I am the "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" here at the League. But in all seriousness, as President, I am often the public face of the League. My goal is to make sure that school leaders at the board and building level have the tools and resources they need to provide quality education to their students. I provide resources and school-based support to leadership and governing boards of Colorado charter schools. I also work behind the scenes building relationships and creating partnerships to further the work of the League. I serve on the League’s Policy & Advocacy Team with a focus on increasing and/or maintaining equity in charter school facilities, funding and flexibility at the local, state and federal levels.
On Charter Public Schools
My 30 years of service as a teacher and school leader in traditional public schools, charter public schools, and private schools has allowed me to experience the unique ability of charter schools to provide innovation and opportunity within the educational landscape in a way that is often difficult for other school models to do. Charter schools are an indispensable part of our education system, and I am thrilled to work at an organization like the League that is committed to creating an environment within our local communities, the state, and the nation that protects the autonomy of charter schools while ensuring both equity and accountability. Charter schools across Colorado impact over 108,000 students every day, and I am both honored and humbled to be a part of this large responsibility and amazing work on behalf of children and families.
Before coming to the League, I spent 30 years as a teacher, school founder and school leader within various school models and types; and I spent five years as the League’s Vice President before replacing League founder, Jim Griffin, when he moved on from the League to start a research firm. When not working at the League I spend my time with my dogs Brooks and Webster, and my husband Mark, biking, hiking, skiing, camping, traveling, or reading a good book with a good glass of wine. I received my Masters of Science in Education, but I believe that the greatest education comes from simply living and experiencing life.
