What I Do For Charter Schools
(How Charter Schools Will Know Me)
I work with groups hoping to start a new charter school by providing support, documents, referrals, and other resources to help guide them through the application process. I also review charter school applications to help new schools edit and refine their application before submitting it to an authorizer.
On Charter Public Schools
My passion is to help ensure that every child has access to an exceptional education. My involvement in charter schools came during my quest to find the best school for my own children. As a result, I became one of the founders of Twin Peaks Charter Academy in Longmont. Charter schools are a place where parents and community members can truly have a voice in their schools, and charter schools add depth and breadth to a school district that is beneficial for the whole district and education system.
Before coming to the League, I spent many years working in special education, serving as the Children’s Ministry Director at my church, and volunteering wherever I could in schools and on school boards, as well as helping to start Twin Peaks Charter Academy. My charter school experience includes curriculum, assessment, budget, grants, accountability, special education, policy development, re-chartering, negotiations, strategic planning, hiring and performance reviews, elections, governance, self-study and external reviews, grievances, public relations, writing and reviewing applications, and conference and individual training for new board members, developers, and staff. When not working with the League I enjoy reading, traveling with my husband, spending time with my grandson, and bird watching (Bald Eagles and Sandhill Cranes in particular).
