What I Do For Charter Schools
(How Charter Schools Will Know Me)
I work with our internal team, charter public schools and partner organizations to develop and address policy and legal solutions and issues related to K-12 education and charter school specific matters at the local, state and federal level. I also participate in the development and advancement of the League’s annual policy and legislative agenda. In addition, I provide resources and guidance to Colorado charter public schools on a wide range of issues including state and federal education law, contracts, labor/employment law, and much more. I also help spearhead the League’s various facilities initiatives providing support to schools on facilities related issues. In addition, I am the Project Director for the national Charter School Facilities Initiative
. As General Counsel, I also support the League’s operations department in legal and corporate matters.
On Charter Public Schools
I began working with the League out of a desire to get involved in the non-profit world, and quickly developed a deep appreciation for the role that charter public schools play in our education system. Education is not one-size-fits-all, and charter schools provide more choice and diversity to our public education system so that each student can find a school that is the best fit in reaching his/her fullest potential. Charter schools are also focal points of innovation and community involvement, allowing the parents and communities that the schools serve to truly have a voice in their students’ education.
Before coming to the League, I worked as an attorney in a private law firm, specializing in corporate and employment law. When not working at the League I enjoy hiking, spending time in the mountains, going to Denver Nuggets games, spending time with my friends and families, and going on wine tastings. I received my B.A. in Sociology and Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, and my law degree from the College of William and Mary Law School.
